Monday Movie Magic @ Cathay: Mummy 3

Anyway...

After watching the previews, I was excited to watch The Mummy 3: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor asap. But after the show.....honestly, I felt that in this 3rd sequel, the Mummy kinda lost it's magic. Not because there is not enough magic spells in the movie... In fact, there were lots of it.

Disappointments:
1) The beginning of the movie appeared quite messy with scenes being cut here and there.... like as if it was badly edited. I also felt the beginning was too slow and boring.... I actually fell asleep!

2) Maria Bello, took over the role of Evelyn from Rachel Welsz. Somehow I felt that she didn't have the charm of Rachel. Maybe she did not have that "husband wife" look that Rachel had with Brendan Fraser. Also, Maria's role for Evelyn feels a bit "forced", I felt that she is trying too hard to act out Rachel's charm had in Mummy 1 2. The worst part about the replacement is that, she made Evelyn looked like Rick's elder sister, than his wife!

3) This is really silly! I really wonder what's with Hollywood and their obsession with American actors speaking mandarin in the movies. As with Jet Li's previous Hollywood film (with Jackie Chan) in Forbidden Kingdom, the Americans can actually speak lots of mandarin! (but none of us really understand them). The most laughable part has to be the scene when Ming Guo (Russell Wong) shout his final words to Michelle Yeoh before he gets torn by the horses. Yeah..... I just couldn't catch what he is trying say (Can someone enlighten me?) I'd rather they have someone else to do a proper voice over than to make the actors appear like monkeys on screen. *Hollywood, I'm sure you can do better than this!*

Thumbs Up!
1) For the visual effects. Just like Mummy 2, the visuals are impressive. My favorite scenes includes the part where the terracotta horses first came back to life in Shanghai. The horses look so evil and demonic, they look so cool!

2) And near to the end when Emperor calls up the 5 Elements (I like the elements!)

Conclusion
Overall, I would think the movie is "entertaining" enough. But isn't really fantastic. I wonder if the director deliberately included "Chinese-speaking-Americans" to spice up the movie? I'd really prefer the movie to do without it. At least it won't appear "silly".

Ratings: 6.

What Happenz In The Cathay

First of all, sorry but I really really have the need to rant here.

Is it me or what, I realise that as the pace of our life gets faster, as we get richer, and as we have higher education, we Singaporeans are becoming more more rude, self-centred and selfish. (Before you start to bombard me with negative comments, let me tell you, I'm a true-blue Singaporean ok, no doubts about it!)

Recently, I felt that me baobei were damn unlucky lor, met with some incidents with absolutely rude people. I personally met with couple incidents, first with the elderly man at the mrt (which I've told my story in my prev post.), followed by another encounter while at golden shoe during lunch time, then this week, twice @ Banquet food-court. (I'm not going into details about these incidents as I pretty much wants to brush them off.)

And with baobei, not too long ago, we met with a couple who tried to snatch our parking lot @ IMM and made us damn pissed off. You see, we've been waiting there for like ages. And he have the audacity to just try to snatch our lot when he has just arrived. He was not like waiting behind or infront of our car, mind you! Which if its the case, we would have simply closed one eye and just let it go. But he just came suddenly from our side, while baobei has already flashed the indicator and prepared to reverse and made into the empty lot. I'm sure you know what I meant. Haiz.... not going into details about this one either.

Ok, lets jump to our incident last night. We attended the Her World Bridal Show last sunday, and as we are the first 100 participants to register, we were given 2 free movie tix to attend the premiere at The Cathay cinema. Oops, forgot about the movie title "What Happenz In Vegas"

The show was hilarious quite good, but was almost ruined by this couple of rude movie goers.

Infact, perhaps I should called it "What Happenz In The Cathay", wahahaha....

It was free seating, and we've managed to get a cosy seating at the end of the row. But that is also the angst and the begining of the whole unpleasant experience we had.

You see, there was this loud couple seated just behind us. They were eating and talking loudly, which I try my best to just ignore them, thinking that "hey, maybe they were just rowdy people and were getting excited about the movie..."

Then, they saw one of their friend, and the lady called out loudly for her friend to sit beside them.

When the movie finally begins, we started to experience this whole "shaking effect" of our chair behind. Please do not think that this was some kind of new technology installed at the cathay cinema whereby they have shaking chairs for some action-packed kind of movie. Ours was a romantic comedy, fyi.

Initially, there was only once or thrice, but its got so frequent that even baobei was very irritated. Thats when I turned my head slightly behind, and guess what I saw?

The couple, especially the lady, was slouching and criss-crossing her legs until her heels kept kicking into the back of our seat. And she was munching away with tidbits. It was damn ridiculous lor, as the space between the seat and the back of the seat infront of you was so spacious. (If you have been to The Cathay, you would know what I'm talking about here.)

We really can't understand how can they possibly keep kicking into the back of our chairs. Not just the lady alone, but her guy was seated just behind me and he did the same too.

I did asked baobei if he would like to change seat, as its free-seating, but he said nevermind.
So, we begin to tolerate their kicking of our chairs and hysterical laughter and remarks while watching the movie.

But baobei finally got so damn irritated that he turned his head around, wanting to tell them not to do so. I did turn around and tried to say "excuse me, can you stop kicking our chairs?". I did not even intended to be hostile because I truly thought they did it unintentionally as these were the insentitive, selfish movie-goers.

Guess what, when both baobei and me turned around, they completely ignored us. Yes, you heard it right! They acted nonchantly with their eyes glued straight at the movie screen. Not once, did they looked us in the eyes and acknowledged what we've told them. Their friend actually saw me and was giving me this shocked facial expression.

WTF!!! Acting nonchantly has actually pissed off baobei, which he really showed it and I can tell he didn't enjoyed his movie. I told him to just ignored them and meanwhile, I tried to enjoy the movie. (Ok,ok I admitted that I was as pissed off as baobei and it was simply hard to concentrate on the movie, feeling so much like telling them off sarcastically. But I endured, trying not to lose my cool if they decided to act ignorant and treat us as transparent.)

"Hey, why should we not enjoy our movie and be spolit by such people. I am not going to fall for their deliberate actions of ignoring us." I was thinking to myself.

After that, the Biatch kept continuing to kick into the back of our chairs. (I've lost count how many times seriously.), which I've a feeling it was done deliberately.

"Lady, if you can't sit properly wearing pointed high-heels, I would suggest you to wear flatties or even sandals. Oops, sorry I should know that you can't, as you are a shortie. My bad..."

And after the movie ended, they stood up first, and I was completely surprised to find that they were not so tall afterall. Pardon me for being bad-mouth, but I'm trying to state the facts. Both the couple look like barely 1.60cm, thus I'm very belwildered how in the hell they can kick into the back of our chairs???? Its pretty absurd I find.

And really, looks can be deceiving as they look pretty decent and harmless.
But their actions, OMG!!!

When the movie ended, we proceeded to go to Level 1 washroom, and while exiting the entrance, well well well, we bumped into them!

That lady looked at me from head to toe at that split second when we passed each other through the door, but I immediately said loudly to baobei "There, she is the one lah! Biatch!!!" Her bf did not even dare look us in the eyes.

I absolutely abhor people who stared at others from head to toe and treated others as if they were transparent. KNS!!!

Yes, you may call me a biaTCH as well. But seriously, I don't care anymore. It is such rude, selfish insentitive people that caused us to react in such a way.

And I sincerely believe "What Goes Around, Comes Around....." And they will one day, be dealt with, in the very same manner as us.
