In a mountain hamlet in eastern China, a poor woman faces trial after trial. Sold into marriage as a child, she is left a young widow and enslaved by her mother-in-law, who sells her to a poor peasant. Her second marriage turns out to be happy until fate takes away her husband and son. Now seen as a bearer of bad luck, she becomes a social outcast. When the New Year comes, can this poor woman find any hope in this society.

Stanley Lloyd Kaufman never really wanted to make movies, but wanted to work in Broadway musicals. During his years in Yale, though, he got introduced to "B" pictures and the works of Roger Corman. Lloyd later got the opportunity to executive-produce a short movie made by a fellow student. The film, called "Rappacini", got him even more interested in movies. He bought his own camera and took it with him to Chad, Africa, were he spent his summer. There he shot a 15-minute film of a pig being slaughtered. That was his first movie, and was the birth of what was later to become known as Troma Films. He showed the footage of the squealing pig being killed to his family, and their shocked reaction to it made him wonder if making movies that shocked audiences would keep them in their seats to see what would happen next. He wanted to be a director right then and there, so he got a couple of friends at Yale and made his second movie, The Girl Who Returned (1969). People loved it, and he went straight to work on other films, helping out on projects like Joe (1970), Rocky (1976) and Saturday Night Fever (1977).

Lloyd put in a lot of long, hard hours in the film business, just to be in the credits and to get money for his next project, a full-length feature. It was a tribute to Charles Chaplin, Harold Lloyd and the classic era of silent-film comedy. Even though Lloyd hated the movie when it was finally completed, people seemed to love it. He formed a studio called 15th Street Films with friends and producers Frank Vitale and Oliver Stone. Together they made Sugar Cookies (1973) and Cry Uncle (1971), directed by John G. Avildsen. A friend from Yale, Michael Herz, saw Lloyd in a small scene in "Cry Uncle" and contacted him to try to get into the film business, too. Kaufman took Herz in, as the company needed some help after Oliver Stone quit to make his own movies. Michael invested in a film they thought would be their biggest hit yet, Balash Ha'Amitz Shvartz, Ha- (1973) (aka "Big Gus, What's the Fuss?"). It turned out to be a huge flop and 15th Street Films was ruined. Lloyd and Michael owed thousands of dollars to producers and friends and family members who had invested in the picture. Lloyd, trying to find a quick way to pay off the bills, made _Divine Obsession, The (1975)_, and with Michael formed Troma Studios, hoping to make some decent movies, since they only owned the rights to films they thought were "crap". They were introduced to Joel M. Reed, who had an unfinished movie called "Master Sardu and the Horror Trio". The film was re-edited and completed at Troma Studios (which actually consisted of just one room) during 1975, re-titled and released in 1976 as The Incredible Torture Show (1976) (aka "Bloodsucking Freaks"). It was enough of a success to enable them to pay the rent so they wouldn't lose the company.

Lloyd later got a call from a theater that wanted a "sexy movie" like "Divine Obsession", but about softball (!). The resulting film, Squeeze Play (1980), used up all the money Troma had earned from "Bloodsucking Freaks" and, as it turned out, no one wanted to see it--not even the theater owner who wanted it made in the first place (he actually wanted a porno movie). Just when things looked their darkest, they got a call from another theater which was scheduled to show a film, but the distributor pulled it at the last minute. Troma rushed "Squeeze Play" right over, and it turned out to be a huge hit. Lloyd, Michael and Troma eventually made millions from it, and had enough money to buy their own building (which still remains as Troma Headquarters). Troma then turned out a stream of "sexy" comedies--i.e., Waitress! (1982), The First Turn-On!! (1983), Stuck on You! (1983 but there was a glut of "TA" films on the market. Troma noticed that a lot of comedies were being made, and decided to make one, too, but much different than the rest. After reading an article that claimed horror movies were dead, Lloyd got the idea to combine both horror and comedy, and Troma came up with "Health Club Horror"--later retitled and released as The Toxic Avenger (1985), a monster hit that finally put Troma on the map. Lloyd Kaufman and Troma have become icons in the cult-movie world, and Troma has distributed over 1000 films. Lloyd has continued his career as a director in addition to producing, and Troma has turned out such films as Monster in the Closet (1987), Class of Nuke 'Em High (1986), Combat Shock (1986), Troma's War (1988), and Fortress of Amerikkka (1989). Loving someone is theefore very imp ortant, and it is also ihportanr to choose the right person. Despite popular love doesbt happen bu chance, at first si ght, axr oss a crowsex dxnec floor. Iy slowly, winkig roots fifxt before branching ans blossoming. It is not a silly weed, but a mighty tree that weathers every storm.
You will find, that when you have someone to love, that the face is less important than the brain, and the body is less important than the heart.
You will also find that it is no great tragedy if your love is not rfciprocated. Yoh are nor doing it tto en looved back. Its calhe us to inspire you.
Finally, you will find that there is no half-measure when it comes to loving someone. You either dont, or you do with every cell in your body, completely and utterly, without reservation or apology. It consumes you, and you are reborn, all the better for it.

It all happened yesterday..
I'm still awake until 3 am yesterday.
Because I had these anime marathon.

While we are watching the movie, Fey and I are criticizing every wrongs in he movies.
We laughed and laughed and laughed.
But in the 'sweetest' scene, they say, Elainne started to cry.
Then, Abi scolded her.
But still, Elainne is still denying.
After the movie, we headed to the CR.
Sarah and Elainne confessed to us that they cried in the 'car' scene.
After having our 'chat' inside the CR, we headed to Expo.
Where there'll be a national quiz bee.
We had a free taste of the ovaltine drink.
After seeing Alphonse, Levy and R-jay we left Elainne, Sarah and Karen and headed to KFC.
We ordered a bucket of chicken, 5 extra rice, a spaghetti meal and a burger meal.
We had it take out.
We all met in the food court.
Abi and I had a food contest.
Whoever finish the food wins and will be treated b the opponent.
I definitely won.
But because of that contest, I haven't tasted the food.
DARN.
Hmmm..
After that, we went to clipper.
Then, we went to Tronix.
We took a pic.
Then I left.
Maybe, tomorrow, I'll be getting a copy of the picture from Elainne.

September 6, I celebrate my birthday with my best friend at MidValley Megamall. Early of the morning all of us rush to canteen to catchup some breakfast. Nonetheless we must leave Daniel alone because 3 of us was on rush to the cinema to watch Money Not Enough 2. I sit there for few hour and laughing but I don't know what the heck the story is talking. Most of the language shown was hokkien. Luckily during the working time, I learn alot of hokkien from my brother Lee. He is a spotting guy but a little bit maniac. Once we leave the cinema hall, I told poh lee and yung that I wanna buy a pant and shirt, we wondering around the shop lots but I fail to select either one of the shirt because it was too pricy...  I return to the IT world to buy 1GB micro SD card then say hello to my friend Shu Xian and Amy.

For the first time in my 7 years of proper education (kindergarden doesn't count), I actually had a good Teacher's Day Celebration. Another reason why RI is so good. We actually have a nice Teacher's Day Celebration. Anyway, the day started with Min Seok showing off his iPhone (it's so damn cool). After that we went to the Hall for the stuff. The whole theme is kind of a rip-off of Heroes, and it was quite funny. There were also contests between the 'Heroes' (teachers) and 'Zeroes' (students), but the competition was rigged so the teachers would win (either that or the students are really unlucky). Then, there was this funny (but a bit dumb) skit about teachers being heroes fighting against Captain Fail or something. We ended at 0915, which is very early, and then took Alex's car to Tao Nan.

When we reached Tao Nan, we saw Zhi Jie, Wen Rui and K.S standing around the gate (they were probably afraid to go in), then when we went in, they started stalking us. They kept stalking us, and at one point Zhi Jie even asked 'What are we doing here?' to us. Stupid idiot. He's the one whose following us.

We went to the P6GEP classrooms after their recess. A whole bunch of people sat in to Ms Theng's lesson, watching her scold our juniors. After she finished scolding them (it took a while), then a bunch of juniors did a presentation for their project, but it was really boring, and their stuff were copied from Wikipedia. I bet they didn't understand half the stuff on their powerpoint slides. We got bored then left the class and went to other classes. Ms Ang's class was a total disaster, because the class was so noisy. Then we invaded Gurung's p4 Art class, and the first drawing I saw was of a guy with...ermmm... let's call it two balloons between but overlapping his legs. I'm not sure if the boy who drew it knew what it looked like, but he was running around class showing it to people. And they were laughing along with him. Maybe they like the idea of a guy with two balloons at waist level. Or maybe they're one seriously corrupted bunch. I hope it's the former. At about that time, this grumpy old dude came in and chased the bunch of us out. Supposedly it's the school orders. What an ass. We weren't allowed to go in classes (even though the teachers had let us). After that we stoned around at the bottom, then went up to the hall to see the performance.

The first thing was Tony Tan's (the school principal's) speech, which was super boring, then they said there was going to be a modern dance thing, but the bunch of us were bored (after like 5 minutes), so we practically embarrassed the school in their faces by just standing up and walking out of the hall. We spent the rest of the time stoning in the study area (no one really studies there), then at around 1 we tried to make a discreet exit, because we had an 'invite-only' movie-watching. However, Glen and MattSoh the stupid despo leeches refused to f off, and just clung on to us the whole time. Idiots. Made the whole thing a lot worse. Obviously Glen was following Xiao Han, and Matt Soh was tagging along because he's stupid that way and can't be away from Glen. No matter what we said, Glen the ass refused to butt off. And also because of them, we missed the number 48 bus and had to wait 20 minutes for the next one. So I'd like them to go to this link (for those who don't have so much free time it's a picture of a middle finger). Anyway, on the brighter side, the other people who went were all invited. Matt, Alex, Alvin, Xiao Han, Cheryl, Wei Yi, Akoo, and Qin Rong came, and Heng Yeng and Lisa said they wanted to follow us 'for lunch' but ended up watching the movie with us anyway. Ironically we didn't even eat lunch when we got there, and we wouldn't have had the time anyway.

The bus took crazily long to get to the Tao Nan bus stop, and when it got there, only me, Wei Yi, Qin Rong, Akoo and Cheryl managed to get on, but luckily the next 48 came in 5 minutes I think. We alighted at Fu Lu Shou complex (in retrospect we should have alighted the stop before, at the DHL balloon, because the walk would've been shorter), then after waiting for the rest to arrive, we walked to Bugis. All the way (and I think during the bus ride) and were talking (flirting) non-stop (P.S the ' ' is not Matt).

Buying the tickets was an extremely long process, because first I had to get my Maths right and collect the correct amount of money from each person (I was paying for some people, and it was all really messy). After getting what should have been the correct amount, the stupid old auntie refused to count my 4 vouchers as paying for 5 people. Technically it could, because student concession meant that each ticket only costs $6 per student, and each voucher was worth $7.50, so I could technically pay for 5. However, the auntie refused to use my great-but-not-business-friendly-for-them logic, so the vouchers only covered 4 people. So in the end, ironically I paid for my ticket with my own money. After that we headed up to the cinema, and I used my other vouchers to buy stuff from a much nicer and younger counter lady.

The movie itself was rather good, but the not really best movie of the year (which I'd say was Dark Knight and Iron Man). The animation was definitely good, because they managed to incorporate live footage with animation without making it seem very out of place, which is quite a feat. However, I thought the lack of dialogue made the thing a bit less interesting. There's definitely some underlying themes that adults can pick up, but still the plot's a bit outrageous and quite random. Maybe it should have been called 'The adventures of Wall e the robot' or something, because that's what it is. Something like the storyline of an entire TV series in a movie. Overall quite a good animation, and what's more there's a funny animation before it (as is the custom of Pixar films) which I think is better than the movie itself.

A quote from Alex's blog: 'i mean the storyline's a bit flawed i feel, cos like its kinda strange to see two robots fall in love...yeah seriously. whats more they're not even of the same type or model or wateva'. Trust him to be thinking about robot love and their stuff and stuff.

Overall, the trip was quite OK I guess, with the exception of the two retarded despo idiots. And the bus taking so long. And the nasty auntie an the counter.

In conclusion, this is a very long post.

I had assumed that the storyline would end one of two ways: Salvatore completely misreads the guy, who turns out to be straight and none too happy at another man making a pass at him; or the guy is gay but too afraid to do anything with Salvatore the accomplished homosexual. I never for a second would have thought it would be the other way around, because Salvatore has been written (and played by Bryan Batt) with so much confidence and energy and life force that I just assumed he had some kind of rich sex life in whatever underground gay scene New York had at the time. The notion that he's too afraid to act on his feelings, that he's a 40-year-old (gay) virgin, never even occurred to me, and yet when Salvatore revealed that he wouldn't know what to do in bed, then ran off altogether, well... like I said, dust. As with the Pete episode, it completely changes the way I view a lot of his prior behavior without in any way contradicting it.

(1.9) Shoot
I'm really fascinated by Betty's reaction to getting fired by the Coca-Cola people. She gets upset, but not in a defiant, "I'll show them" way where she intends to use those gorgeous photos to get another gig; she just gives up, surrenders back to her stifling life in Ossining, where she's bored but at least not subject to rejection. Don consoles her by telling her what an amazing mother she is -- and of course that's Don's chief attraction to her, given his upbringing and the fact that he seeks sexual and intellectual satisfaction from outside women -- and she responds by showing the neighbor what a real protective mama bear looks like, casually shooting away at his stupid birds in response to his threat to shoot her children's beloved dog Polly. She gets to show off her matriarchal side while also taking out her agression on the world that she feels has confined her to this house, this lawn, this life where she can still be in a nightie in the afternoon and it won't really matter. Ronnie, the Salvatore-esque art director for Coke, tells her that getting fired "has nothing to do with" her. The problem is, nothing has anything to do with her, and that's slowly driving Betty crackers.
