Alright, today I decided to review I Am Legend, a truly marvelous film that's only bad after you've watched it over 7 times, which i have.
Ok, so the movie starts with Robert Neville(Smith) driving around New York in a super cool Ford Mustang with his dog, hunting......deer? In New York? Yes, because the city is empty. Yes, empty.
The movie explains that some woman invents a cure for cancer, and I'm pretty sure she's the lady from Stranger Than Fiction. So Karen Eiffel is evil.....sorry, lost my train of thought.
So, apparently the cure for the cancer somehow becomes a virus that infects those given it. The infected are turned into some kind of creatures that are a cross between zombies and vampires, because they hate sunlight and infect others with their bite.
So, supposedly the entire human population is either dead or infected and hiding in the shadows as Neville hunts for his food,(though he could just go to the grocery store and get anything for free, but i guess that's just to easy.)
Neville and his German Shepherd, Samantha, return home after their deer is eaten by.....lions? In New York? I guess from the zoo.
Neville is giving his dog a bath, when suddenly his watch starts beeping. A severe close up of his face passes and then he locks up his house withs giant, sliding, metal walls over his windows. He then curls up in the tub with Sam and we here faint wails and zombie screams in the back ground. Not very scary. We then see a flashback of Neville picking up his wife and daughter at their home and frantically taking them in a government Suburban and drive off, apparently taking them to a place where helicopters are transporting only the uninfected to a safe, secure location.
Lots of crap happens that show Neville and Sam's lifestyle in this god-awful future of 2012, I think. The action really gets good when Neville catches one of the infected and ties it up in his laboratory basement and studies it. He intends to find a cure for the virus and save humanity. Well how nice of him.
Then, one day as Neville is driving in his Ford Expedition,(Ford movie) he is falls victim to a trap that the infected set up and is left hanging upside down, unconscious until he awakens near dark. He breaks free and is attacked by viscious infected dogs. He doesn't have to worry about being infected because for some reason, he is immune to the virus. But Sam is bitten! Oh No!
He escapes and takes Sam to his lab to try and cure her. But, cue sad music, Sam turns into an infected and is strangled to death by her former master. Neville, who is extremely angry now, goes out and picks a fight with a few dozen infected humans before having to be rescued.....by other humans!?
It turns out other humans may have survived. A woman and her son take Neville to his home and cook him breakfast, and show him Shrek, which he has apparently seen, because he recites a scene from it word for word. Creepy.
So eventually their home is attacked by some infected and they take refuge in Neville's lab. If you're not watching the alternate version, then Neville kills himself along with all the infected with a grenade, but the woman and child survive.
Oh yeah, there was another flashback that shows a helicopter that Neville's wife and daughter were in that gets hit by another helicopter and kills them.
The woman and child take the cure that Neville found to a group of surviving humans in Michigan or something, and voila....the end.
Dog dies, hero dies, cure found, and we are just left to imagine if the cure helps humanity regain dominance on Earth and live a new type of life that has no war or violence at all.

So I called customer service and asked if I could sign up for a new plan that would reduce my voice minutes and save me some money. The representative, who barely spoke English, finally understood my request and set me up with a new plan with 150 fewer minutes per month. I was simply astonished when I received my first bill under the new money-saving plan. My monthly cost had gone UP by about $15. At that point I figured any other cellular provider had to be better than Sprint and I made my decision to get an iPhone as soon as I could and pay the Sprint early termination fee when I did so.
So how has ATT been so far? Now Ive read lots of bad press regarding ATT and their customer service on the Web, so my expectations were pretty low going into this new relationship. However, its been all good so far!
I first strolled into my local ATT store a week after the iPhone 3G became available and asked to order one. The sales person was efficient and knowledgeable and had my order placed in no time. By two business days later I received an email message asking me to come by the store at my earliest convenience to pick up my new iPhone. Two days!
Upon arriving at the store, I was referred to my original sales rep who already had my new iPhone in hand. Setting me up as a new customer and activating my iPhone took all of 15 minutes. Again, he was very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. He asked me if I already owned another iPhone or iPod Touch. When I told him I owned a Touch, he warned me that Apple had made some changes to the connector pin-outs and that any Touch accessory I owned that charged the device might not work with my new iPhone. He told me to try it first (my Griffin car FM transmitter/charger will not, in fact, charge my iPhone 3G), and that if I found that it didnt work I could come back to the store anytime and get a car charger that would work with my new iPhone. In other words, he took pains NOT to try and oversell me with accessories.
So, after that initial pleasant experience, how have things been with ATT? What about network coverage? Dropped calls? Real 3G availability?
I frankly wasnt expecting much in the way of 3G coverage where I live - in the backwoods of Charleston, WV. I figured Id be able to utilize 3G only in my business travels - after all, Sprint has never provided EV-DO in this area. I was wrong! ATT has superb 3G coverage throughout the Charleston metropolitan area. I even get 5 bars of 3G service in my home! During my recent drive to family in VA I ran into Edge-only areas of coverage, but nevertheless I was able to make cell phone calls while driving and without any dropped or poor quality calls. Once arriving in the Manassas and Fredericksburg areas where my family lives, I again encountered very strong 3G signal strength. As Ive already mentioned a couple of times I didnt even bother utilizing free WiFi at my hotel in Woodbridge, VA because the 3G service was so fast there.
In addition, ATT has provided me with access to their customer-support Web pages which are cleaner and much better organized than those provided by Sprint. I also like the *MIN# function they provide to request an SMS message with the current minutes remaining in my account.
So, right now Im much happier with the service I have received from ATT than what I received from Sprint. Im actually surprised, again based on rather low expectations of what I would get from them. Its really quite a nice experience to be pleasantly surprised by a cellular service provider.
